(More customer reviews)It's not cheap, but it's gooood. Whether you need to drain pasta or filter out the mind control rays from the orbital satellites, this one'll do the job for a long time. Very solid. A little bit heavy, but that's the tradeoff--sure, you can get lighter (and wimpier) colanders, but why run the risk of having your mind being subverted by the CIA because they jack up the power a bit?
Seriously, it's a very good colander. You'll never need another one. The handles are welded on so there's no rivets to fall out, and it's about the right size for the typical pasta mess. Enjoy.

(More customer reviews)To keep my homemade taco shells upright to fill and hold before eating, I've used those little plastic three-legged "tables" designed to keep the pizza box lid from touching the pie. They generally work well. Finding these Taco Proper Taco Holders on Amazon.com, I decided to give them a try. They, too, generally work OK, however they are just a bit too narrow for some shells to easily fit into the holder. It's usually possible to wedge the cooked shell down into the holder without breaking the shell, but not always. Care sometimes must be used to remove the taco to eat it lest the shell break. These minor problems are occasional only, so while a slightly larger holder would be better, these items are adequate.

(More customer reviews)I delayed purchasing this for months, waiting for the price to come down. It never did. I didn't like spending $15 for this, but it really does look great and work very well. The dispenser came in its own box (in addition to the Amazon shipping box), and inside the box the dispenser was wrapped in plastic. It was wrapped so well that I even decided to use the straws that came with it, which I had intended on throwing away due to my previous experiences with dirty kitchenware from Amazon.
The dispenser does hold 100 straws, but 75 fit and fan out a little better. When the lid is lifted, the straws lift up and fan out, just like old-fashioned glass dispensers, and then they return easily back into the dispenser when the lid is set back down. The dispenser is about 10.5 inches tall from the base to the top of the knob.
The bottom silver-colored cup that holds the bottoms of the straws was a little crooked, but that was easily remedied by just lifting the whole inner unit out of the acrylic tube and screwing the bottom on better (it's attached to the stem, which is riveted like a screw at the bottom, with an ordinary nut).
After seeing and using this first-hand, I've decided maybe it was worth what I paid. Maybe.

Norpro Polished 3-Cup Stainless Steel Hand Crank Sifter Review

(More customer reviews)My previous sifter has two mesh screens and two rotating wheels. The rotating wheels are activated by a squeezing handle. The most typical design. It was easy to use and quick. However, foods eventually trapped in between the mesh screens and they were impossible to get out. Washing it with water only made the matter worse. This is a very common problem. I had to replace it after only 2 months. Consequently, I shop for an old-fashion single screen sifter -- a sifter I can wash without worrying pieces trap inside the sifter.
After doing much research, I bought this Norpo 3-Cup sifter. It is made of 18/8 stainless steel, fitted with a single hemisphere mesh screen and a rotatable 4-wire agitator. The stainless steel body is rigid and the rotatable hand crank is smooth. Washing it is simple. The sifting is easy and the resulting flour is good. The price tag was slightly less than $10 which is very cheap, especially it was offered via the 4-for-3 program, so I probably only paid ~$8 for it.
Now, there are issues when I get this product. Although the product arrived relatively undamaged, it was not packed properly and it could have been badly damaged. The mesh screen was pushed slightly out of shape when it arrived and I had to mold it back to allow better contact with the 4-wire agitator. I assume the product was fine when it left the factory and the mesh screen was altered during shipping. These two problems do not directly speak about this product, but rather the potential problems when buying online. Because this is a single mesh screen sifter, the sifted flour is not quite as fluffy as my previous two screens sifter. Although the rotating action of this sifter is pretty simple, it is still not as simple to use as the hand-squeeze ones. In addition, the sifter action from the agitator can flick tiny amount flour outside of the cup, causing you to clean up the mess afterall. Despite its minor drawbacks, this sifter provides exactly what I am looking for and I am very happy.
I highly recommend this sifter if you are looking for a functional sifter which foods will not get stuck and easy to wash.

(More customer reviews)Pay heed to the one-star review. I was just rinsing the lid off with lukewarm water and it cracked and broke. The lid had sat and cooled to room temperature before I rinsed it. It was never dropped or mishandled in any way. Very strange. Grosche offers a replacement lid and infuser set but Amazon doesn't offer it for sale!!!! It really kinda sucks too because this is a great tea pot otherwise.
Sept 17 2010 UPDATE!!!!
When this originally happened I emailed the company and they said the infuser/lid replacements were out of stock and they would be available in a few weeks on Amazon (which they now are). However, last week I received an email from thier customer service saying that for being so patient they were going to send me a new infuser/lid at NO CHARGE!!! I got it in the mail today. Awesome!!! Awesome!!! Awesome!!! Thanks Grosche! This product is now FIVE STARS all the way!!!

Deluxe Cherry Stoner and Olive Pitter (Euro Scissor Design) Review

(More customer reviews)Had a long discussion with our local kitchen store owner and looked at her stock. It looked like this cherry stoner would be the most efficient. It has a curved plate that holds the cherry in place as the pit remover is extracted from the fruit. It works just as well as I thought it would.
It extracts most pits cleanly without losing any of the fruit and the cherry drops out of the tool with a flick. Once I got a rhythm going, and realized that the the fastest extraction happens with the cherry inserted sideways, I was processing a cherry about every couple of seconds. It's not quite as fast as the old hopper feeder/lever action model I grew up with but almost. It also doesn't mangle the cherries like that did. They come out looking nice. It's a good thing that cherries ripen in mid summer so I could pit them over the glass patio table. Juicy cherries can be messy. Inside a sink works too but why waste a summer day?
If there's any negative it would be that this is made of plastic. It is certainly more fragile than a metal model. Though using it for a couple of hours a year I don't see that durability should be a problem. On the other hand, that plastic makes it very inexpensive.
I works well for Calamari olives too. The tool holds the larger fruit size just fine.

Pros: keeps one stick of butter fresh and spreadable for 30 days (assuming you don't eat much butter); bread/muffins don't get torn up while buttering; no butter thrown away because it's gone bad; handy; easy to clean; looks nice on cabinet or table.
Cons: you do need to remember to change out the water every three days; drips a few water drops when you open it -- oh, the horror of it all!

Norpro Cast Iron Plett Pan Review

I held the pan by the handle and turned it over to look at the bottom. The "cast iron" handle snapped off and the pan fell to the floor. Back it goes!

(More customer reviews)We really liked this spinner a TON - until I was eating salad one day and I found a small piece of white plastic in my mouth. It was fairly large - it was 1/4" x 1/4" and very thin. I could have easily swallowed it (and choked) or cut myself on it. We thought the plastic was from the bag of lettuce we bought. Or, we thought it may have been the feta cheese we bought. We nearly threw out all of the food and called the companies because it was that scary. We just could not figure it out...until it happened again!! That's when my wife realized that when you use the "brake" it can easily clip off the small plastic things underneath. Maybe ours was just made improperly - maybe not. But, if you buy this - be very careful the plastic does not chip off. Too bad - because, it was a smart idea. I returned mine to bed bath and beyond.

Only thing is that I thought a 2 cup item would be larger, thinking that their "2 cup" description meant that it would hold 2 cups of nuts, candy, or whatnot.
I actually "tested" it with a 2 cup measuring cup. The bowl only held the entire 2 cups of water because the water sort of "rounded up" and thus didn't go over the edge of the bowl.
If you plan to use it as a serving dish, as I did, you'll need to plan on about 1 cup to 1 1/2 cups of food product. If you need a 2 cup untensil, buy something else because the food would spill out if anyone dipped a spoon into it for their serving.

First time I used the scoop to serve ice cream the semicircle that should clear the ice cream from the scoop pivoted out of position and stayed there. I was able to push it back with my thumb. I wouldn't use with anything heavier than cookie dough.
