(More customer reviews)I've given this a good rating because I remember using my mom's eons ago, and I was happy to see that I could order one for myself decades later! But I goofed up. I didn't take into consideration the DIAGONAL measurement of this item, and it's too big to TURN in my microwave. So... make sure YOUR microwave has at least 16 inches of clearance inside if you want your bacon to spin. Duh.
UPDATE, ONE YEAR LATER: I did buy a smaller version of this tray, but I decided I like cooking bacon in the oven way better than the 'wave, even though it takes more time. Get a baking sheet with a cooling rack that fits inside (very cheap at a restaurant supply) and lay the bacon strips on top. Put it into a cold oven and set for 400 degrees. It takes about 15-20 minutes, but the results are crispier, flatter, and yummier (especially if you brush the strips with maple syrup the last few minutes of cooking). All the drippings are caught in the tray, which you can pour into a container pretty easily. Pork fat rules!

The only thing I can say is that it arrived with a slight crack, and was very poorly packaged for shipment. That said, I could care less as the hunk of plastic stays in the microwave even when not in use. It does it's job: it keeps the foods from splattering all over the microwave itself and contains whatever messes may take place to the glass tray in the microwave.

Nordic Ware Microwave Eggs 'n Muffin Breakfast Pan Review

(More customer reviews)I take a small bowl, mix two large eggs with a splash of milk (don't over beat it, just get it mixed well) and pour it into the gray side of the container. Close the lid, and microwave it for a minute and a half (our microwave says it's 850 watts if that helps). The steam will cause a little bit of popping noise here and there. Some steam might shoot out from under the lid and onto the bottom of the microwave, but I haven't had any issues with egg splattering inside the microwave.
Before opening the thing, I flip it over and give it a gentle shake so the egg falls into the lid. Then I open it up and flip the egg onto some bread. This way I have better aim to get the egg on the bread instead of shaking it over the bread to get the egg out of the cooker. Not that its hard to get out, but that little bit of a shake can make your egg land off center of the bread. I'm just OCD enough that my egg must be centered. This thing is small enough that you can set your bread or muffin on top of the cooked egg and then flip.
As far as cleaning goes... a little bit of egg will be stuck to the inside of the cooker, but it's not baked on hard. It cleans out easily enough. Just wipe the egg out and toss the thing in the dishwasher. I haven't tried using cooking spray in it yet, but you might want to try it if you want this to be even easier to clean out.
It's just a nice, handy little microwave container that's really inexpensive. The way I do it, it makes a nice thick fluffy disc of egg which is perfect for making sandwiches. It's hot enough when you first take it out of the microwave that if you throw a slice of cheese on there it will melt enough to be tasty. It doesn't taste the same as frying an egg in a pan on the stove, but it's not supposed to, and it's not going to, and it's healthier than frying anyway.
Nordic Ware also makes a microwave egg broiler which can hard boil 4 eggs at a time in the microwave. If you like to hard boil eggs (or even soft boil them too) I would also recommend that product.

Nordic Ware Microwave 2 Cavity Egg Poacher Review

(1) The instructions aren't on the product itself.
(2) I still prefer poached eggs on the stove.
However, perhaps this will help those of you struggling with why the darn thing won't work for YOU:
(1) Most instructions are written for 700 watt microwaves.
(2) Your microwave is likely not 700 watts if your results are bad. (Assuming you follow the other instructions re water, piercing the yolk, etc.)
(3) If you don't know the wattage of your oven, use this chart -- http://www.microwavecookingforone.com/Charts/Wattage.html -- and a cup of water to determine your wattage.
(4) Once you have your wattage, use this chart -- http://www.microwavecookingforone.com/Charts/ChartsFrom700.html -- and select YOUR oven's wattage then go to that chart to determine the correct cooking time for you.
For example, my oven is 1100 watts (I cheated and looked at the manual, but I should boil water now and again in case it changes):
Step 1 -- I go to the chart for 1100 watt conversion from 700 watt here -- http://www.microwavecookingforone.com/Charts/Chart1100.html.
Step 2 -- On the packaging AND on the company website for this product, they say that two eggs should be 1 minute 15 seconds. I look for 1 minute 15 seconds and find that I should actually cook them in MY microwave for 48 seconds.
Step 3 -- I follow the rest of the instructions (1/2 teaspoon of water per egg, pierce the yolk once, close the device firmly, leave it shut for at least 30 seconds or more afterward so the whites will cook completely), then voila, perfect poached eggs (except, yes, the bottoms are rounded).
My microwave has a rotating glass plate, so your results may vary unless you have one of those or you invest in one of the micro-go-round type products. I suspect that is what makes both eggs cook evenly.
Hope that helps. Heck, for $2.00, this little thing works like a charm.

Nordic Ware Microwave Omelet Pan Review

(More customer reviews)The Nordic Ware Microwave Omelet Pan is quite a nifty little kitchen gadget. Before purchasing, I had said to myself, "Making an omelet in the microwave? Impossible." I got this pan and was proven wrong. To my surprise, the omelets made in this pan come out rather tasty. I was also pleased that the eggs come right out of the pan and don't stick at all. However, as others have said, you must use some kind of cooking spray, oil or butter for a completely non-sticking surface when removing the egg from the pan. It's easy to clean. No stuck-on, hard to remove egg whatsoever.
I remember reading one or maybe a few reviews that said their pan didn't come with instructions. Mine did. I followed them and the resulting omelet was not the best. It came out a bit hard. It was edible and not bad but not particularly the best omelet. The instructions are rather standard and goes as follows:
- 2-4 eggs
- 2 tablespoons of milk or water
- Beat in a small bowl
- Pour the mixture in the omelet pan evenly on both sides
- Cook for 2 minutes
- Stir from outside in
- Place the toppings on each half and cook for another 1.5 minutes
- Remove from the microwave
- Fold the pan to make the omelet
What the instructions do not take into account is the wattage of the microwave you're using or that times may vary depending on the amount of eggs you use.
My findings based on the use of 2 eggs, which I think is more than enough(for me anyway), is that hand or electrically mixed eggs took 1.15 to 1.30 minutes to be completely cooked or when the eggs started to bubble up and it looked like they would bubble over and the wet egg was consumed. Any longer or following the above directions provided by Nordic Ware resulted in the hard or rubbery eggs that I described earlier. However, using the times I indicated resulted in a soft, fluffy, fully cooked omelet which was more to my liking. Another important note is that I'm using a 1250W microwave. Perhaps the factory directions would be more suitable if you have a lower wattage microwave or are using more than 2 eggs.
I mostly make cheese omelets. I like to place the cheese on after I take the omelet out of the microwave because from experience when I did it as instructed, the cheese came out watery.
Pan fried, stove-made omelets taste better in my opinion but this pan still does a good job and in a fraction of the time.
I also use the omelet pan for making eggs to put in my breakfast sandwiches. I just beat one egg and pour it on one side of the pan. Cool gadget for quick eggs in the morning.

We just needed a simple microwave that wouldn't take up a ton of space on the counter. Also, we've always thought of GE as a quality company. Being smaller is the ONLY good thing I can say. After using this microwave for 30 days, give or take, it stopped heating. That's right, 30 DAYS. I didn't even get the "PF" power failure message that other people online have described. It turns on and seems to be working, but it is not heating at all. Spend the money, get a higher end microwave. This one is a piece of junk.

HA SH R-530EK METALLIC BLACK 1 (Sharp R530EK) (MICOVEN R530EK) Review

(More customer reviews)Our Sharp Carousel microwave finally died after 18 years of faithful service. Even the light bulb lasted 18 years. It was heavy and reliable; an awesome appliance....Naturally, I planned to replace it with another Carousel. The reviews were not spectacular. Poorly designed touch-pad, plastic latch mechanism, etc. Unfortunately, other manufacturers seemed to be as bad or worse. I needed a microwave and couldn't find anything better, so I ordered a Sharp R-530E (R-530 EKT according to the label). That's the very large, 1200 watt oven in gleaming black with a 16 inch turntable. Now that I've used it for a couple of weeks, I'm ready to offer my appraisal.
The Good:
Good price. Hard to believe how inexpensive these are.
Awesome size. This bad boy can accept your largest dishware and has a substantial glass turntable.
Good power. A large cup of water will be piping-hot in 2 minutes. Re-heating a large casserole dish of leftovers is quick and reasonably even, but is likely to make a mess unless covered.
Unit looks great. The gleaming black is unobtrusive and looks great on our dark granite counter. The digital readout is OK and the clock is easy to set, although it lacks a 12/24 hour choice. Odd since it offers foreign language choices.
The Bad:
Flimsy plastic latch mechanism. My previous unit had plastic latch hooks, but they were substantial. If you barely brush against these, they WILL snap off. Much worse than I expected.
Ridiculous touch-pad. The ON, OFF, and MINUTE PLUS are hard to find and way too small. The pad is cluttered with lots of choices you probably will never use.
A lightweight. Although some electronic components have gotten lighter, the light weight of this unit is perhaps indicative of the overall move to cheaper components. I don't expect it to last.
No turntable disable or 30 second quick heat buttons.
No easy access to change the light bulb. When mine fails, I will rewire it with a LED, assuming I haven't already thrown it away because the cheap plastic latches snapped off.
Bottom line: Looks good, great size, good price, works adequately, but probably won't last. What were they thinking with those cheap plastic latches ready to snap off? Did any of those engineers use that horrible touchpad before they put it into production?

(More customer reviews)Absolutely loved this product...for the first 50 days. Then it died. I called Haier to find a local service center and was told they don't do repairs on this. So if I send in the receipt, cut off the power cord, take a blow dryer and remove the label on the back, along with a check for $15 via registered mail, they will send a replacement in 3 weeks.
As if it wasn't bad enough having the unit not even last 60 days, now I have to jump through all these hoops. And pay for the pleasure of doing so. Oh, and wait 3 weeks for a replacement, which means I have to go out and buy something in the meantime anyway.
The microwave is great, when it works. But Haier has a lot to learn about standing behind its products.

My first Amana Radarange I had for over 20 years(it's still running, but loosing its cooking power). Even though Consumer Report didn't test this product I bought it anyway due to past experience and it came in stainless steel.
It is actually lower wattage than my old one, but it much more powerful. Great space inside, but due to the turntable (that you can't turn off)my rectagular dishes bang around.
I only have one negative: You can't use the kitchen timer feature and use the microwave at the same time like on my old one.

Sharp 1200-Watt 1.2-Cubic-Foot Microwaves Review

(More customer reviews)I'm not one to write reviews of appliances, but I have been very pleased with this microwave. When it's time to upgrade from a $39 dorm microwave, this is the one for you. Lots of bang for your buck.
I am particularly impressed with the sensor feature of the Sharp. When making popcorn, for example, you touch the "popcorn" button once and the overn turns on automatically. When the inside of the microwave reaches a certain temperature the sensor shuts off the oven automatically for ZERO unpopped and ZERO burned kernels. I'm considering calling the Guiness Book of World Records on that one.
Frozen meals cook evenly. I also like that the turntable is flush with the bottom of the oven.
Best Buy was recently selling it for $99 (I purchased it for $89), so $79 is an excellent price. Buy it and be happy.

But seriously, once you see how to mount the microwave, you can buy a few screws and washers from Ace Hardware and mount it without the kit. If you're not handy, they go ahead and buy the kit. But then again, if you're not handy, you ought to hire someone to mount the microwave.

3. Toaster is surprisingly good. The digital timer gets your toast the way you like everytime, and very easy to adjust up or down. The slots are much wider than even a bagel half, you can get dinner rolls in there!

(More customer reviews)First let me explain why I purchased the Sharp "OTC". We recently updated our kitchen and decided on a standard hood vent for above our stove. When it came time to replace our Microwave that had been sitting on the counter, we wanted one that was a "space saver", i.e. Over-the-counter. There were very few to choose from! So we decided to go with the sharp.
I have not been disappointed at all! I was originally concerned about the installation. It was a breeze. The sharp is a nice size microwave as well, not a compact.
As for the 5 stars I've given it, I have very little complaints.
Pros: Big & powerful. Fairly easy to install. Great price (as compaired to Over the Stove types). This model has many great features as well. Sensor reheating, presets for popcorn, frozen foods,..etc.
Cons: Sensor reheat over heats food just slightly. Some reheating features are slightly complicated to use, so I don't bother. (lots of button combinations that I can't seem to remember yet)
